Brenda Kowal and Idlehour Nakuru. 2009 was another successful year for my talented and handsome horse, IdleHour Nakuru. He competed competitively at First Level and his training in Second Level has been very good. He was ready to begin competing at Second Level but due to a bad riding accident on a young Thoroughbred, I was unable to ride for 2 ½ months. The hardest part of the recuperation was not being able to ride Nakuru. I was extremely unfit when I started riding again but Nakuru packed me around with his big, comfortable gaits. Nakuru had qualified for the USDF Regional Championships at First Level. We traveled to Lexington, VA to compete but neither one of us were completely fit to show. It was not our best work but what a joy it was to be back in the saddle again riding my Cleveland Bay. My medical bills have regretfully forced me to offer this wonderful horse for sale. I have been looking forward to taking this incredible horse through the levels. Now, somebody else will have to build a trophy case to house all of IdleHour Nakuru’s awards.
Elizabeth Jenkinson and Idlehour Forio. IdleHour Forio’s first show season in Training Level qualified him for the USDF Adequan Region One Finals with his trainer, Nancy Lewis-Stanton, aboard. At Grand Haven, Jefferson, Ohio, Forio was Reserve Champion at Training with 72.4%. In the Finals he competed both the Training Level Championship and First Level. He was fourteenth in a class of thirty in the Championship with a score of 65.8%. First Level Test One Forio received Fifth Place in a class of thirty scoring 62.33%. Forio is also USDF All Breed Awards Cleveland Bay First Place at Training Level with a score of 68.531%. Elizabeth, Forio’s owner, is a Second Level dressage rider and para-equestrian riding for physical therapy. She purchased a Cleveland Bay for this express purpose due to their kindness, intelligence and safety. Forio more than proved his breed versatility this past Summer enabling Elizabeth to return to riding only eight weeks after knee reconstruction surgery thereby accelerating her recovery by months. Considering Forio is six years old and started under saddle training in January, 2008, his cooperation is astounding. She looks forward to a long, loving partnership with IdleHour Forio and future showing accomplishments!
Jackie Braley & Legacy Clive. I was lucky enough to get Legacy Clive last November from Lisa Johnson. She offered to let me lease him (for $1 no less!) for a year and I agreed. I had put down my 12 year old Thoroughbred in July, but honestly didn't know if I was ready for another horse. I had two three year olds that needed work, and I just wasn't sure I could handle a third horse. But I knew Clive's competition history and also knew him on a personal level. I'm a massage therapist that works on both people and horses and Clive (and his full brother Legacy Laurie aka "Winston" also owned by Lisa) had been clients of mine for two or three years. I decided to take him home and see what happened. Well, by April I decided I had to have Clive for my own. I am also blessed to work as a caretaker for an Equestrian Facility just south of Steamboat Springs. Getting top quality lessons on a regular basis really helped Clive and me "click". And we haven't looked back. We're looking forward to 2010 and First Level next year!
Beatrice Marienau and Ashley's Rambling Heart. I bought Ashley’s Rambling Heart, also known as Poca (Pocahontas) due to her beautiful dark eyes and mane and tale, as a 4 year old. We had a slow start (mainly trail rides and basic training), because my husband and I were very busy building our dream Ranch/Equestrian Training Center. With the age of 8 Poca gave birth to her first beautiful foal, by Diamond Hit. This May, of 2009 I restarted her as a Dressage horse, after a 3 year break, to see where that road will take us. In a very short time she developed to a horse that besides confidence, eagerness to work and learn and success (scoring up into the 70%), she is an amazing, fun, loving partner! I am training her now in 2nd level skills and she will show next year in first, may be second. I also may have a young rider showing her next year. We will see and we are looking forward to her upcoming success!
Linda John and American Jazz. American Jazz, otherwise known as Jazzy has been in training for 3 1/2 years. She is Quarter horse/Cleveland Bay. Her mother Smokey Skywalker was a chestnut quarter horse and her dad was pure bred Cleveland Bay Tregoyd William. Jazzy was bred by Heather Spangler of Molalla, Oregon. She has a great brain and prefers humans to other horses. She has quite the personality but very sweet. This year was our first doing recognized shows and was a big leap for both her and me. She is the first horse I have owned and I bought her when she was just a few weeks old, I have enjoyed raising her and have had a lot of fun with her. She will be moving up to 1st Level and when Jazzy is ridden by her trainer, she scores well above 70%.
