From the Equine Journal - July 2009

"I have the most beautiful Cleveland Bay!" "I have the most beautiful Cleveland Bay!"  Like Spartacus' mythology, we all have the most beautiful Cleveland Bays.

Now is your chance to show that your horse is the most beautiful Cleveland Bay of all, by entering the CBHSNA's Cleveland Bay horse photography contest!  Thirteen (13) winners will have their images selected for inclusion in the 2010 Cleveland Bay Horses calendar sold through Café Press.

In case you haven't seen the stunning 2009 Cleveland Bay Horses calendar (still available at http://calendars.cafepress.com/item/cleveland-bay-horse-wall-calendar/334092061 for $15.99 plus tax and shipping), the 2010 edition will also be a high quality, full color, glossy 11" x 17" wire-bound January-December calendar with U.S. holidays and 2011 preview.  Not only will you be proud to display it at home, at work or in your stable, you'll never miss a vet or shoeing appointment again!

Subject Matter:  The photo's subject matter must be a full or part-bred Cleveland Bay horse.  You choose the moment, whether it's wowing the judges, luxuriating at pasture, or doing something clever for a carrot.  Let your horses' beauty, talents and personality shine through in any candid or formal setting.

Criteria:  Photos will be selected based on a combination of overall appeal, demonstrating the qualities of a Cleveland Bay, and suitability for publication in the calendar format.  Submissions are limited to twelve (12) photo entries per horse.

Timing:  All entries should be made electronically by e-mailing gwenandriley@roadrunner.com with "Cleveland Bay Photo Contest" in the subject line, and must be received by September 30, 2009.  Following the volunteer selection committee's decisions during October, the 2010 calendars will be available for order through Café Press by approximately November 15, 2009.  What a great holiday or promotional gift!

Format Requirements:  Photos will appear in the calendar horizontally, sized approximately 11" x 8.5".  Resolution should be 200 dpi, in a file format of either Portable Network Graphics (PNG) or JPG. All images should be saved in RGB Color Mode.

If you are better with a double bridle than photo software, please don't let technology hold you back from submitting!  The contest committee will do its best to convert your photos to useable format; however, it cannot accept PhotoShop Document (PSD), TIFF, BMP, Adobe Illustrator (AI) or EPS.

Copyright:  Amateur and professional photography is welcome; by submitting your photo, you certify that you have the rights to use the photo for possible printing and sales.  Professional photos must be accompanied by a release.  If a photo contains a photo credit, copyright notice, watermark or other information, it must be located in the lowest 10% of the photograph and not detract from the photograph.

Sales:  Proceeds from calendar sales will benefit the CBHSNA Performance Awards program.  Calendars will be advertised in BayWatch, the CBHSNA website, the Cleveland Bay Yahoo! Group and other equine publications.  Café Press handles all calendar printing and distribution.

Spring ushers in the ideal time of year to capture those precious moments of newborn foals, horse shows and hunts, sunset rides and many more "bay-eautiful" memories, so dust off that camera and put your creative eye in gear!  Past season entries are also welcome.
